Two players from the Black Bear Hotel in Wareham have come first and second in a national poker tournament.
Andy Cannon won the Red Tooth poker tournament regional final in Portsmouth, with Andy Welch finishing as runner up.
“The guys get together in the pub every Sunday night for the Red Tooth league,” explained Lynda Maytum, who runs the pub. “It’s a national tournament played amongst pub players.”
Every three months, the top players get together for regional finals.
“Andy won the tournament recently in Portsmouth and will go to Vegas later this year,” said Darren Milne. Darren helps to run the pub team that enters the tournament.
It’s the second time a player from the Black Bear has won playing Red Tooth – Andy Welch, who finished runner-up this time, also won it in 2013.
“We’re always looking for extra players to come along and join in,” Lynda added. “So if you fancy getting your hand in, even if you’ve never played before, come along every Sunday evening from 8.”
Just goes to show that even though they’re friendly people, put some cards in their hands and they turn red in tooth and claw!
